When we say rafting today, your first association is a cheerful group of people who descend down the river Tara in rubber boats… However, this form of rafting, commercial rafting, has been popular only for the past 20 years or so.

The precursor to rafting was TRIFTING…

During the Austro-Hungarian rule over this area, the exploitation (cutting) of forests was carried out, and the fastest means of transportation, some would say the only one, due to the extremely inaccessible terrain of the canyon of the Tara River was the transport of logs through the river…

The wood that was cut in the forest was sent down the Tara River through narrow gorges in the canyon and then transported further by water…

When we say transported, we don't mean that it was loaded onto boats or ships, but literally let go so that the strength of the Tara River would carry it like twigs…

At certain points on the river, these logs were stored, classified, marked, collected, and tied together, and one of those places was UZLUP, a narrowing on the Tara River and the place where the Tara River is the deepest.

The people who did this extremely dangerous job, transporting and breaking up the accumulated logs, were called TRIFTARI.

They were characterized by exceptional courage, agility, and skill.

Numerous places on the Tara River still bear the names of the deceased triftars and forever remind us of them…

Our skippers will tell you these and many other interesting facts during rafting on the Tara River…

Rafting Today

Today's rafting on the Tara River is an exciting, adventurous activity in which participants descend down the rapids of turbulent rivers in rubber boats with the help of guides - skippers.

The popularity of this activity is increasing every year.

Every year, tens of thousands of tourists from all over the world descend down the Tara River. We have the privilege of organizing rafting on the Tara River, one of the best rivers for rafting.

The canyon, which is 1333m deep, is among the deepest canyons in the world, and it is a shame not to take advantage of its geographic proximity and not to visit one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Balkans.
