A day trip to Sarajevo

ABOUT SARAJEVO

This is a chance to explore the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sarajevo is one of the most historically interesting capitals of Europe. The rich cultural heritage dates back to prehistoric times. The most significant cultural monuments were built here during the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian empires. Sarajevo is a special place where many cultures will intertwine: the Catholic West, the Byzantine East and the Ottoman South. The city was rebuilt after the war of the 1990s. The whole city is a museum of history, tradition and culture. It is often called the Jerusalem of Europe because of its religious and cultural diversity. The old tram rails around the city center, traditional restaurants, craft workshops, cafes, bars, along with the residents of Sarajevo, give a special charm to the city and leave no one indifferent.

Travel itinerary:

Departure from the camp in our vehicles. After two hours we arrive in Sarajevo.

You will see the most famous landmark of Sarajevo, the Sebilj fountain, a wooden fountain located in Baščaršija. The legend has it that anyone who drinks water from Sebilj tap will surely return to Sarajevo. We will walk through the oldest part of town, Baščaršija, built in the 15th century. Then we will reach the largest and oldest mosque in Sarajevo, the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque. Next to it is the Clock Tower (Sahat kula), which shows the time in Mecca. We will also walk to the oldest "shopping center" in Sarajevo - Bezistan, dating from the Turkish period. Then we come to the Grda City Hall, the most beautiful building from the Austro-Hungarian period. Since 1949 it has housed a library, and today it is also a town hall and a museum. Then we walk along the Miljacka River all the way to the famous Latin Bridge, the site of the assassination of Franz Ferdinand.

Free time for lunch and getting to know the city. Return to the camp.
